The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, a division of SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations, and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield will sponsor a falls prevention informational workshop for veterans of military service on May 1 in Mexico.
The days are getting longer, the temperature is getting warmer, and for many, the countdown to summer is officially “on.” For many people, a big part of the upcoming season is spending time at the magnificent parks and historic sites that dot the Central and Northern New York region.
The compelling story of a deaf/blind child takes center stage this weekend in this fresh adaptation of the classic story of Helen Keller and her teacher Anne Sullivan. Helen Keller will preview with a pay-what-you-can final dress rehearsal April 25 at 8 p.m., then open April 26 at 8 p.m. The show continues April 27 at 8 p.m. and April 28 at 2 p.m.
The second weekend starts May 3 at 8 p.m.
The American Red Cross will be holding a blood drive in Fulton at the First United Methodist Church on April 27. The hours will be from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The church is located at 1408 State Route 176 across from the Fulton Junior High School.
The Cayuga Community College Fulton Campus will host “An Evening of Art and Music” from 4 to 8 p.m. on May 3 at the new campus, 11 River Glen Drive, Fulton. The event will showcase artistic creations of students from Cayuga and high schools across Oswego County, community members, as well as college employees and alumni.
Katherine Hughes of Mexico graduated with a Master of Science in Information Science from the University at Albany. During its Winter Commencement on Dec. 16, 2012, the University at Albany awarded 630 bachelor’s degrees and 440 graduate degrees.
A SUNY Oswego alumnus will be the first local talent on the stage of the FunnyBone Comedy Club and restaurant at Destiny USA when he appears there this Saturday. John Wolfson will bring The Magical John Show to the FunnyBone for a family matinee that includes magic and comedy for all ages.
It was recently reported that two Albany lawmakers from Downstate were involved in corruption and bribery. One lawmaker, Assemblyman Eric Stevenson, is accused of accepting more than $22,000 in bribes from four adult daycare centers, with the understanding that he would put forth legislation that would benefit the centers.
Assemblyman Colton (D-Brooklyn) was joined by Senator John DeFrancisco (R-Syracuse), Assemblyman Will Barclay (R-Pulaski), and other lawmakers, to call attention to a pressing matter facing members of the military as they return home.
