Oswego County Opportunities’ Education Services is joining others around the world in recognizing World Book Night. Established in the U.K. in 2011 and introduced in the U.S. in 2012, World Book Night is held annually on April 23, Shakespeare’s birthday.
The Oswego State softball team (6-12, 3-5 SUNYAC) dropped a pair of conference contests to Plattsburgh (16-10, 6-4) by the scores of 6-0 and 5-4 on Sunday afternoon. The Lakers will travel to Potsdam for another twinbill on Monday.
Using hot bats and clutch hitting, the Oswego State baseball team (13-10, 6-4 SUNYAC) was able to complete the regular season sweep of Oneonta (9-18, 4-6 SUNYAC) in the Sunday doubleheader by the scores of 13-1 and 6-5. The sweep puts the team into third place in the conference standings and just a game out of first place
Over two years ago, Marissa Hill woke up with words in her head. In the middle of the night she penned the story that would eventually inspire her senior project at SUNY Oswego. These words became “Our Walk,” a collection of 11 paintings and picture book all created by Hill. “Our Walk” is currently on display at The Coffeenook on West Second Street in Oswego and will be featured until the end of the month.
The Oswego County Legislature’s Public Safety Committee recently congratulated Sgt. Howard Bennett for his 15 years of service to county government. Bennett is a correction officer at the Public Safety Center.
The new employees, who will join the OCO’s staff of human services professionals, recently completed the agency’s orientation process and will begin to serve consumers in their respective programs.

The Oswego County Legislature’s Human Services Committee presented a proclamation designating March as Developmental Disabilities Month. While one in every 43 Americans is affected by developmental disabilities, they all still have valuable attributes that allow them to make worthwhile contributions to their communities.
While many area food pantries are serving more families and individuals than ever before, a significant amount of other families and individuals are lacking in the knowledge of how to locate and access food pantries as well as learning more about proper nutrition for themselves and their families.
