‘About Boater Safety’ Certificate Class at Harborfest

For the first time ever, the U.S Coast Guard Auxiliary will be conducting a New York State Certified “About Boater Safety” course during Harborfest. The class will take place on July 27 in the McCrobie Building. There may be an additional class on Sunday depending on the number of people that signed up in advance of the July 24 registration deadline.

Job seekers learn ‘What Employers Want’ at forum sponsored by Oswego County Workforce New York

A large audience of job seekers and several human resource professionals recently participated in a panel discussion to demystify the application and hiring processes at local companies. The forum, entitled “What Employers Want,” was sponsored by Oswego County Workforce New York and allowed local employers to share the qualities they are looking for from job applicants.  It was held at the new Cayuga Community College campus in Fulton in May and was open to the public.

Water Chestnut Control: Start Early and Continue; Pull Set for July 13 at Port Ontario

Plants are good for the environment, right? Not always. Aquatic invasive species (AIS) in local watersheds and ecosystems are negatively impacting native plants, animals and habitat. An invasive species is defined by the federal Executive Order 13112 that establishes a National Invasive Species Council as a species that is non-native to the ecosystem of interest and whose introduction causes or is likely to cause economic or environmental harm or harm to human health.
