There is no cure and only one drug for treatment which modestly extends survival. Every 90 minutes someone is diagnosed with ALS, and every 90 minutes someone loses their battle to this debilitating disease. For Darby Leaf, this battle was personal. Leaf’s grandmother, Linda Hathaway, lost her fight with ALS this past summer.
LeRoy L. Haynes Sr., 76, of County Line Road, Phoenix, town of Granby, passed away on Thursday Sept. 26, 2013.
The ranks of Oswego County’s Youth Court swelled by a dozen on Thursday. Youth Court is a recognized community diversion program aimed at keeping young offenders out of Family Court. Youth Court is a system, backed by police, where juvenile offenders who have committed a minor crime and have admitted their guilt are tried by their peers in a court of law.
The Oswego County Legislature’s Health Committee recently presented the village of Mexico with the first-place award in its annual best-tasting water contest. The competition is sponsored by the Oswego County Health Department’s Environmental Division, New York State Department of Health and the New York State chapter of the American Water Works Association.
State Senator Patty Ritchie visited Parish Public Library recently to tour the library and meet with staff and volunteers. Parish Public Library was the recipient of $3,000 in special funding secured by Senator Ritchie.

The Oswego High School Fall sports season is in full swing and numerous teams have been in action the past few days. The Oswego High School varsity boys volleyball team defeated Cicero-North Syracuse in one of the most exciting matches of the year.
Students at Volney Elementary School were recognized in a special assembly for their academic and/or social achievement during the month of September.
During a special academics awards assembly, Pulaski High School Principal Jay Altobello was joined by former Middle School Principal Jean Lynch and current Middle School Principal Michael Bateson in presenting the awards to the students.
