The New Hope Presbyterian Church will host another “Parish Community Blood Drive” at the Parish Fire Station, 16 Union St. on Sept. 28 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come in and donate and receive a voucher for two great offers at Monro Muffler/Brakes.
Oswego Health will once again provide free screenings and health-related educational information at the Central Square Lioness Club Apple Festival to be held September 28 and 29 at the Brewerton Speedway located on Route 11. The hours of the festival are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on September 28 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 29.
A benefit will be held for Helen/Candy Sereno on Sept. 15 at Timber Tavern Route 48 Baldwinsville from 1 to 6 p.m. Helen suffered a massive heart attack on June 16 and has been unable to work and faces mounting medical expenses.
The Oswego County Historical Society will host the fourth lecture of the season on September 22 at 1:30 p.m. at the Richardson-Bates House Museum at 135 E. Third St. in Oswego. The event is free and open to the public. Guest lecturer Justin White will present a program entitled “Family Portraits: Stories of the Richardson-Bates Family.” White is a board trustee for the historical society and is also the Oswego County Historian.
The Oswego County Legislature’s Human Services Committee recently presented Sara Sunday with a certificate of appreciation for her 20 years of service to the county.
The purpose of the event is to recognize the merchants that have hosted Christmas kettles, restaurateurs and organizations that have provided Guest Chef dinners, and all others that have supported the work of the Army in Oswego County with their time and resources.
Dr. Heather Douglas of the University of Waterloo, Ontario, will present the 25th annual Warren Steinkraus Lecture on Human Ideals at 2:15 p.m. Sept. 28, in the Historic Lecture Hall, Room 222 of SUNY Oswego’s Sheldon Hall. Titled “Ideals for Responsible Science in Democratic Societies,” the lecture is free and open to the public.

Baby boomers now in their 60s and 70s continue to lead active lifestyles and are enjoying the benefits of socialization and recreation. As result, OCO’s Dining and Activity Centers have taken on a look and feel that echoes this fresher, more youthful outlook.
