Pride travel softball tryout – commitment day set

The Pride travel softball program will have a tryout/commitment day from 3 – 5 p.m. on September 8 at the Oswego High School varsity softball field for any girl interested in playing Pride travel softball next summer. (In case of rain, the session will be held at The YMCA Armory on West First Street). The session will consist of skill work and a scrimmage game conducted by Ron Ahart and Mike McCrobie. All Pride coaches will be on hand to evaluate players for the 2014 season.

Health Department will hold rabies clinic Sept. 11 in Schroeppel

The Oswego County Health Department will hold a rabies clinic for cats, dogs, and pet ferrets from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 11, at the Schroeppel Town Highway Garage, 69 county Route 57A.  New York State law requires that all cats, dogs, and pet ferrets be vaccinated against rabies. The first rabies vaccine should be given at three months of age.

Fulton Amateur Radio Club is pleased to announce another free amateur radio entry level “Technician” course starting September 16 in the County Building, Fulton, across from Mimi’s at 7 p.m. The only cost to students will be the purchase of the study guide. As Construction Nears Completion St. Francis Commons Prepares To Welcome Residents

Construction at Oswego’s first Assisted Living Program residence, St. Francis Commons, is nearing completion as staff makes preparations in anticipation of welcoming the first residents in late September. “Building construction has been progressing on schedule and we are now going through the admission process with potential residents who have contacted us,” said Julie Chetney, Senior Living Coordinator of St. Francis Commons.

Oswego’s University Police places high in national traffic-safety competition

University Police at SUNY Oswego recently placed second in a national competition among college and university law enforcement departments, many of them much larger than Oswego’s 21 sworn officers. The International Association of Chiefs of Police recently announced the recognition for the University Police in the 2012 Law Enforcement Challenge, a national traffic safety program that recognizes excellence through a competition within categories of police departments from municipalities, states, federal agencies, military and others.
