Reception to welcome Leadership Oswego County class of 2014
SUNY Oswego’s Office of Business and Community Relations will welcome the Leadership Oswego County class of 2014 at a reception from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 12. The reception, open to Leadership Oswego County alumni, employers and interested community members, will take place in Room 118 of Rich Hall on campus. Light refreshments will be served.
Oswego Public Library Welcomes New Board Member
The Oswego Public Library welcomes its newest member Dr. Joseph Sgarlata to its board of trustees. Dr. Sgarlata is a retired teacher with more than 32 years of experience at Oswego High School. During his time there, he taught American History and Criminal Justice.
Cayuga CC Offers Direct Selling Program, Thanks to Women’s Fund of Central NY Grant
The Direct Selling Education Foundation and the National Association of Community College Entrepreneurship have teamed up with Cayuga Community College to develop and offer the Direct Selling Entrepreneurship training program. Cayuga will offer this program starting on September 8 at the Auburn Campus.
Cortese to receive honorary degree at Shineman Center’s dedication
One highlight of the dedication ceremony for SUNY Oswego’s Richard S. Shineman Center for Science, Engineering and Innovation on Oct. 4, will be awarding an honorary doctorate to a seminal figure in the advancement of sustainability in higher education.
Oswego’s Big Picture School Ready To Open In New Site
There may be a few boxes left to unpack here and there. But the BUC Junior-Senior High School is ready to welcome nearly six dozen students in September. On Wednesday, many of the students and their parents toured the classrooms located in the lower level of the Education Center. The school is based on the three founding principles of creating rigor in instruction, relevance to real world learning, and crafting relationships to the community.

More Evidence of West Nile Virus Found
The New York State Department of Health has notified the Oswego County Health Department that more evidence of the West Nile virus (WNV) was found in two different mosquito pools collected on August 21. One of the pools is located in the town of Constantia and it is the first positive finding in that township. The second pool is in the town of New Haven where the WNV has been found earlier this summer.
