Ready for World Book Night
Representatives from Oswego County Opportunities Education Services and Literacy Volunteers of Oswego County met at the river’s end bookstore in preparation for World Book Night, April 23, an event dedicated to spreading the love of reading.
Earth Week Proclaimed
Kevin Gardner, acting chairman of the Oswego County Legislature, presented Earth Week Coordinator Richard Drosse a proclamation designating April 19 through 28 Earth Week in Oswego County. The Oswego County Environmental Management Council has planned a variety of projects to help protect Oswego County’s natural resources.

We have been to Singapore several times and each time I am amazed by something new and unique that has opened since our last visit. We stayed at the newly opened Parkroyal Hotel on Pickering with sky gardens at various levels. Typical of Singapore the area next to the street is lined with trees and the street-length lobby has a meandering stream creating a green environment unique for a city hotel plus it is located across from a small park.
Hannibal Democratic Committee Plans Barbecue
The Hannibal Democratic Committee’s annual chicken barbecue will be held on May 5. It will be at the Hannibal American Legion on Rochester Street. The barbecue will run from noon until 3 p.m. or until the chicken is gone.
IRS Warns Donors about Charity Scams Following Recent Tragedies in Boston and Texas
It’s sad but true. Following major disasters and tragedies, scam artists impersonate charities to steal money or get private information from well-intentioned taxpayers. Fraudulent schemes involve solicitations by phone, social media, email or in-person. Scam artists use a variety of tactics. Some operate bogus charities that contact people by telephone to solicit money or financial information.
Hannibal School Board Unanimously Adopts Budget
During Wednesday’s Hannibal Board of Education meeting, the board unanimously voted to adopt the budget and authorized the $28.8 million spending plan for the coming school year. The budget is a $1.4 million or 4.4% increase over last year’s budget and includes the $20.3 million allotted to Hannibal from the state.
OHS Hall Of Famers At Lax Game, Then On To Ceremony
The members of the newest Oswego High School Athletic Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Buc Booster Club, will appear at halftime on Saturday at the girl’s varsity lacrosse game at Wilber Field.After the game the inductees will move to the induction ceremony at the new conference center on East First Street, across from the Press Box.
Fulton Seeks Softball Concession Stand Proposals
The city of Fulton Department of Parks & Recreation is now accepting proposals for the operation of the concession stand at Denesha Softball Field. The concession stand begins operating April and runs through the middle of October. Proof of $1,000,000 liability insurance and a valid health department certificate are required to be considered.
