SUNY Oswego’s Rice Creek Field Station once again invites children to attend Exploring Nature, a weeklong nature education program held twice each summer. Since 1983, Exploring Nature has encouraged young people’s curiosity and concern about their world.
Students honored on the President’s List have maintained full-time enrollment and earned a quality point index of 3.75 (roughly equivalent to an A) or better.
For the month of February, Recognizing Oswego County is seeking nominations in the area of indoor recreation/physical activity. This might include a school that opens its doors to the community to provide an indoor exercise area, or an individual who organizes a winter exercise program.
SUNY Oswego’s Ernst and Young Lecture Series on Gender Equity in the Workplace will kick off for spring 2014 on Feb. 20 with an explorative lecture about the education of women in India today. The free lectures will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on selected Thursdays in the Campus Center auditorium.
The school age students at Discovery Day Care, Alaina Hubbell and Trenton Hoyt were making “Super Snow” recently. Discovery Day Care is a program of Oswego County Opportunities Education Services.
An initial informative program regarding DeMolay is set for February 9 at 2 p.m. It will be held at Hiram Lodge 646 Maple Avenue, Fulton. Guest speaker William Sardone, Executive Officer for New York State DeMolay will attend, along with other officials.
Martin Scorsese will receive the Cinematic Imagery Award at the 18th annual Art Directors Guild’s Excellence in Production Design Awards on Feb. 8. The ceremony, set to take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, will be hosted by standup comedian, from Oswego, Owen Benjamin.
Event officials have been working non-stop to make sure the ninth annual Warm Up Oswego Festival is a success for the community. The festival will kick off Friday, at 4 p.m. at Alex’s on the Water on the Riverwalk East – Alex’s will open its doors with a ribbon cutting and a bonfire in the firepit.
Terry J. Ledger, 65, of Fulton, died Tuesday February 4, 2014, at University Hospital, Syracuse.
In recent news, CVS/Caremark has announced their plans to end all tobacco sales by October 1 of this year. This is a huge step forward for public health. It has been a conflict of interest for pharmacies, providers of health care, to also profit from the sale of harmful products such as tobacco, known to cause cancer, heart and pulmonary diseases.
