EBT Reform Stall Causes $120M Grant Loss

Stop Welfare Abuse GraphicA reform measure to halt use of Social Services electronic benefit transfer cards in strip joints and casinos was passed by the state Senate last month but the bill remains stuck in the Assembly’s Social Services Committee costing $120 million in federal aid. Bill co-sponsor Senator Patty Ritchie said, “Welfare benefits are intended to help those who have fallen on hard times, to feed their families and make ends meet, and taxpayer dollars shouldn’t be used to buy booze, cigarettes and lottery tickets.”

Oswego State men’s ice hockey team knocks off Plattsburgh

The No. 3-seeded Oswego State men’s ice hockey team knocked off No. 2 Plattsburgh in the semifinals of the SUNYAC Championship in Strafford Ice Arena on Saturday night. It is the second-straight weekend that the Lakers took down their archrivals on the road and with this Saturday’s win, Oswego has advanced to the SUNYAC Championship game.

The event raised more than $15,000 to help support our efforts to provide vital services to children who have been sexually or physically abused, neglected or maltreated.
