That special week in April, from the 13th to 19th is almost here. National Library Week is a perfect time to stop in and see what’s up in 2014. Fun, free, and new events for young adults include chess club, which will pair novice and grand master alike, as popular chess software is tested versus mortal men.

When Oswego native Dr. Chris Colloca first conceived the idea of growing grapes on the shores of Lake Ontario, he didn’t envision that his inaugural vintage would be award worthy. Fair Haven’s newest and only vineyard was awarded Silver medals for all three of its wines entered at the 14th Annual Finger Lakes International Wine Competition.
Although the game was played at New Patlz, Oswego was the home team, which proved to be beneficial, as the contest had been moved from the Lakers’ field due to playing conditions.
Three teenagers accused of killing a town of Granby man were indicted by a Grand Jury on felony charges of murder, robbery and burglary. The secret Grand Jury proceedings were revealed when three separate indictments were filed with the Oswego County court clerk containing 19 counts and 25 felony charges against the young men.
The Oswego State baseball team took a doubleheader split at New Paltz on Saturday afternoon. Oswego moves to 10-5 overall on the year and 2-3 in SUNYAC action while the Hawks go to 9-15, 1-7.
Richard “Dick” Cummings, 71, a resident of Oswego, passed away on Friday April 4, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse.
Motorists are reminded that the month of April is National Distracted Driver Awareness month. Members of the Oswego Police Department will be out educating and warning motorist of the danger of distracted driving. April 10-15, law enforcement personnel will be using a combination of traditional and innovative strategies to crack down on motorists who text while driving.
