Hosted by Delta Kappa Kappa Inc., in collaboration with SUNY Oswego’s Men’s Varsity Ice Hockey team, the ‘For the Kids’ fundraiser was the culmination of a campaign created by SUNY Oswego students Denvol Haye, president of DKK, and Eli Kim Swallow, a forward on the SUNY Oswego Men’s Ice Hockey Team, to raise money for the CAC and to help raise awareness of child abuse in Oswego County.
Members of the Frederick Leighton Elementary School Student Council conducted their annual “candy-gram” fundraiser. They were able to donate $125 to the Oswego Animal Shelter.
As the school year winds down, students are gearing up for what is often thought to be one of the highlights of high school, prom. While prom can be a great deal of fun, it’s so important that students know that in order to have a great time, they need to make safety a priority.
Carolyn Handville, program coordinator for Oswego County Opportunities’ Cancer Services Program Partnership, has announced that Dr Padma Ram Medical Services in Oswego is the newest member of the partnership and joins the Cancer Services Program’s network of more than 25 health care provider offices throughout the county.
At Monday night’s Common Council meeting, Kevin Caraccioli presented the council with a petition containing more than 520 signatures in support of his proposed amendment to the city charter. Those who signed the petition include people from all political affiliations, young and older residents, small business owners and those with management experience with some of the largest employers in the county, he said.
SUNY Oswego communication studies faculty member Dr. David Moody has received a national award for his work on African-American visual popular culture. Moody, who has taught since 2010 in the broadcasting and mass communication program, earned the Harry Shaw Award on April 18.
Richard Joseph Ciaramella, 70, of Oswego, died Thursday April 24, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse.
The Oswego Children’s Theater will be hosting auditions for its next production, “Shrek the Musical,” on May 13 from 5 until 8 p.m. and May 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. with the first rehearsal scheduled for May 17 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The auditions will be held at the New Haven Congregational Church, located on Route 104 East, between Oswego and Mexico.
Career and Technical Education students from Oswego County BOCES joined well more than 2,000 students from other BOCES, technical career centers and high schools for the 48th Annual New York State Leadership and SkillsUSA Championships.
Graveside services for Robert A. Lass, who died Tuesday January 14, 2014, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday May 1.
