New York Central Railroad Month at the Oswego Railroad Museum

August is New York Central Railroad Month at the Oswego Railroad Museum, which will celebrate the 139 years of the NYC with models, artifacts, photos and videos. The museum is located at 56 W. First St., in the Historic Maritime District and is open to the public from noon – 5 p.m. every weekend until Labor Day – plus some special weekends.

Budweiser International Classic Week Camping to Open August 24

With Budweiser International Classic Week set to begin in less than a month, Oswego Speedway recently announced that week-long Classic camping will open at the ‘Steel Palace’ on August 24 at 8 a.m. All campers currently in the Speedway’s Albany Street camping lot must be removed from that location by 1 p.m. August 17 in order to prepare the grounds for the following week. Camping receipts are currently available for purchase at the Speedway box office.

Romeo and Juliet Opens on Aug. 15

Romeo and Juliet, played by Knate MacKenzie Roy and Nikki Bolio, rehearse an early scene in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The play opens August 15 at CNY Arts Center, 357 State St. The all-star cast features well-known actors from the areas three theatre companies in key roles as well as blind-gender casting with women playing male roles as modern day strong women.

Phoenix teachers ready to use new technology in classrooms

Thirteen teachers in the Phoenix Central School District will have a new learning tool at their disposal when classes resume in September.

To align with the district’s vision and maintain its forward-thinking strategies, educators from each building recently participated in a five-day Flipped Learning Boot Camp, which incorporated Android tablets as supplemental learning devices.

Suicide Prevention ‘Stride to Save Lives’ 5K Run/Walk Planned

Runners and walkers, including suicide survivors and mental health advocates, will gather to raise awareness for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention as they participate in the Suicide Prevention “Stride to Save Lives.” Proceeds raised will benefit SAVE – Suicide Awareness Voices of Education. Oswego County will be hosting the September 20 event at the SUNY Oswego campus (Campus Center Food Court).
