I’m pleased to report to you that our initial weekend fundraiser/T-shirt sale at the Midway and Harborfest was a fantastic success. The support from the community was amazing and my girls from Troop 10101- so dedicated – so professional, exceeded their goal for T-shirt/bracelet sales by selling out of product on Saturday (1,300 T-shirts and 1,000 bracelets) and then resorting to taking orders for additional shirts on Sunday.

Oswego County Clerk Warns of Phone Scam

Oswego County Clerk Michael C. Backus warned residents of a telephone scam which claims the person receiving the phone call will have a warrant issued for their arrest if they fail to dial an out-of-state phone number by 5 p.m. that same day and make payment. The scam turned up in Monroe County last week and appears to be nationwide.

Karen A. Madden, 53, (wife of Dickie Bateman), a resident of New Haven, passed away at Oswego Hospital on Thursday July 31, 2014.

Witko Wins Popular Fulton Speedway Modified Feature Holding Off Late Race Challenge From Decker

Every Friday Jim Witko and his wife Barb load up their Big Block Modified from their Clarks-Summit, Pennsylvania home and tow north passing other tracks to compete at the Brewerton and Fulton speedways. Why do they do it? Because they want to compete against the best competition there is. On Saturday at Fulton Witko with his all black car with no sponsorship lettering, took the lead on the opening lap of the 35-lap Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modified and dominated until a caution with 6 laps to go that lined-up all the heavy hitters of the division right behind him.

Oswego County DA Offers Update On Search For Heidi

Yesterday morning (Aug. 1), I met with John O’Brien from the Post-Standard to obtain the location of the structure that he and the federal investigator recently searched. Although Mr. O’Brien previously reported that their search of the structure revealed no human remains, I wanted to have law enforcement conduct a thorough and professional investigation of the site for the sake of certainty. There is no reason to believe this site was ever involved with the abduction of Heidi Allen.

Lawler Named to Dean’s List at American International College

Jessica Lawler of Mexico has been named to the Spring 2014 Dean’s List at American International College in Springfield. Lawler was one of more than 400 AIC students recognized for their academic achievements.

Oswego County Solid Waste Reminds Residents of Facility Operating Hours

The Oswego County Solid Waste Department reminds residents that new operating hours for the solid waste transfer stations took effect July 1. The change in schedule does not affect the household hazardous waste collection facility at the Bristol Hill Landfill. The new schedule was implemented in order to save costs and was developed after an extensive review of traffic, waste and recyclables hauled to the five transfer stations.

NY Great Lakes Basin Small Grants Program Requesting Funding Proposals

New York Sea Grant in partnership with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is requesting proposals for projects that will benefit the environment and economy of the Great Lakes region of New York state.
