Susan Keim Weber, 73, passed away on Monday Oct. 13, 2014, at her home in Hancock Point, Maine. She was a former adjunct instructor of communication studies at SUNY Oswego and wife of the college’s ninth president, Stephen L. Weber.
Students in the Phoenix Central School District joined forces with members of the community on Oct. 5 to raise funds to help fight hunger as part of the annual CROP Walk. The event, sponsored by Church World Service, was a united effort among students, staff, local churches and community groups, according to PCSD physical education teacher Angie Neiss.
Warren G. Hendricks, 91, of Norfolk, Va., formerly of Hannibal, passed away Friday October 10, 2014.
In an effort to improve safety and security at local schools, State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced nearly $70,000 in special funding to be distributed to districts throughout Central and Northern New York. “When children are in the classroom and when teachers are leading lessons, the focus should be on learning, not whether or not they are safe and out of harm’s way,” said Senator Ritchie.
All Oswego County youth and family members are invited to celebrate the autumn season this Saturday at the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau’s “Hollis Harvest.” This free event will feature games and outdoor activities from 2 to 6 p.m., including fall-themed games, trick-or-treating from cabin to cabin, arts and crafts, trail walks, and the entertainment of Wade Live, co-sponsored by the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau and the Oswego Kiwanis Club.

SUNY Oswego students will share their talents and campus with visitors from Oct. 24 to 26, during the college’s 2014 Family and Friends Weekend. The annual extravaganza — with many activities free and open to the public — will include a wide variety of scholarly, creative and athletic talents across campus, along with entertainment, tours and recreational activities.
On October 25 representatives from Oswego Health will be performing the exams at the Pulaski Health Center, at 61 Delano St., from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The free clinical breast exams and mammograms are part of the Cancer Services ‘Human Pink Ribbon’ ceremony that will be taking place at the Pulaski Health center beginning at 9 a.m. that day.
