A recent staff collaboration day in the Fulton City School District provided employees at Volney and Fairgrieve elementary schools with an eye-opening lesson in safety and security. In partnership with the Fulton Police Department and as part of an ongoing effort to ensure school district personnel are well-versed in safety procedures, the schools hosted active shooter drills.

Music filled the air in the Hannibal High School auditorium recently as the senior high school band entertained an audience of friends, school personnel and family members with an array of songs. During a recent Common Council meeting a 6th grader stepped to the podium during the public session to ask the mayor of Fulton about the ongoing efforts to clean up Lake Neatahwanta, and what young people can do to help. Brandon Grow, a 6th grader at Volney Elementary School, is a Boy Scout with Troop #780 in Hannibal, and he is working to earn the highest achievement in Scouts: the rank of Eagle.

Geneseo Hands Laker Men’s Ice Hockey First Loss Of Season

The Oswego State men’s ice hockey team took its first loss of the year 2-1 SUNYAC rival Geneseo on Tuesday night in the Marano Campus Center Arena. Oswego’s loss drops its season mark to 5-1-3 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play while the Knights, who are receiving votes in both national polls, improve to 5-3-0, 4-3-0.

Capital Projects Moving Along In Fulton School District

The 2012 project saw upgrades to the electrical system, data wiring and asbestos removal from walls and ceilings as a way to modernize the facilities for the next generation of learners. With that project now complete, the district is tackling the remainder of the 2014 venture. According to Superintendent Bill Lynch, contractors have already made a significant dent in the 2014 capital project.

Oswego Community Development Awarded $330k Water Quality Improvement Grant for Route 48 Green Gateway Project

Stormwater from Oswego’s west side sewer will be redirected to bioswales and tree plantings on State Route 48/ West First Street with a grant awarded by New York State Department of Environmental Conservation for a Water Quality Improvement Program. The city of Oswego Community Development Office applied for the grant in December 2013. Joseph Martens, commissioner of New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation, congratulated Mayor Tom Gillen for the project award of $330,000 for the $414,312 project last week.
