OCO Launches March for Meals Campaign

The staff of Oswego County Opportunities’ Nutrition Services is asking Oswego County residents to join them in their annual March for Meals campaign by being a part of the many events that they will be hosting during the month of March. OCO’s annual March for Meals campaign helps to raise the awareness of senior hunger in Oswego County and serves as a fundraiser to help support the agency’s meal service programs.

Annual Silent Auction Scheduled April 10 to Support Richardson-Bates House Museum

The Oswego County Historical Society will host the 28th Annual “Not So Silent Auction” on April 10 from 6 – 8:30 p.m. at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center at 26 E. First St. Tickets are $20 and will be available for purchase at the door the day of the event. The silent auction committee members have been diligently seeking support for this year’s event.

Riley Elementary Celebrates International Polar Bear Day

Riley Elementary School kindergarten students celebrated International Polar Bear Day recently, through an interactive lesson and video offered through the Alaska Zoo. The program, entitled “Perfectly Polar Bears,”allowed students to meet the Alaska Zoo’s resident polar bears and discover the amazing Arctic icons through an up-close encounter at the polar bear habitat.

As we ‘Spring Ahead’ Make Sure To Check Lifesaving Smoke and CO Alarms

This year, as we “Spring Ahead” for Daylight Saving Time, the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York urges all New Yorkers to check their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to ensure that they are functioning properly. FASNY recommends cleaning all alarms to remove any debris that might impede their function and to change batteries.

United Way Brings ‘Stone Soup Too’ Luncheon to Fulton

Once again, Holy Trinity Parish located at 309 Buffalo St. will be hosting the United Way’s annual ‘Stone Soup Too’ luncheon. The United Way of Greater Oswego County is doing their part in effort to Stop Hunger in Oswego County by raising awareness of the food shortage and encouraging the community to help fill the shelves of local food pantries.

Flowers Abound (in the Snow) at Oswego Middle School

Erin Platten loves to garden and loves flowers. She loves to watch her own children’s excitement when she plants seeds and they later push through the surface and bring joy, hope and endless possibilities. Platten, an art teacher at the Oswego Middle School, wanted to provide some similar hope, joy and possibilities to her art students recently, to offset the continued long winter in Oswego.

Businesses Team up for Winter Coat Distribution In Fulton

It’s been a long, brutally cold winter but fortunately the efforts of two Fulton business owners are making it bit warmer. Joe Cortini of Cortini’s Shoe Store and Jeanne McManus of Ontario Cleaners have been collecting and distributing winter coats, hats and mittens to area youth and children in need of warm outerwear. An idea that started with the donation of few coats has grown in to a project that has collected more than 300 winter coats.

Father-Daughter Dance a Success at Kingsford Park School

The Kingsford Park Elementary School Gymnasium was filled with glamorous dresses, awkward dance moves, tons of laughs, and the sounds of “Macarena” recently for the school’s annual Father-Daughter Dance. The Kingsford Park Home and School Association sponsored the event, and the proceeds from the sold-out dance will benefit future KPS student activities provided by the parent run organization.
