On April 11, Northern Oswego County Health Services conducted its annual meeting along with a day-long strategic planning retreat. At the meeting, Michael C. Backus was installed as NOCHSI’s new board president. He succeeds Timothy McClusky, Esq., who served as president for the past eight years.
In addition to Narnia, the musical running weekends at CNY Arts Center, Thursdays in April will see new and returning events for artists and musicians at CNY Arts Center. TH3, Happy Hour at the Gallery, will return April 23 from 5 to 8 p.m.

The Oswego County Historical Society will host the first lecture of the 2015 season on April 26 at 1:30 p.m. at the Richardson-Bates House Museum located at 135 E. Third St. The event is free and open to the public. Guest lecturer Rick Sivers will present a program entitled, “With Pen and Sword.”
In an effort to shed light on the tragedy of college student suicide and start a dialogue about a heavily stigmatized topic, Active Minds at SUNY Oswego will host Send Silence Packing, a public education display of 1,100 donated backpacks representing the 1,100 college students lost to suicide each year. Of those backpacks, 200 of them will feature personalized stories about individuals written by their loved ones.
“Starting our seventh year of artwork, the mural committee is actively seeking interested youth artists who would like to create a piece of artwork in a public space in the city of Oswego. Youth ages 13 and older, and 8- to 12-year-olds with parent attendance during painting, are welcome to participate,” said Dawn Metott, youth services specialist. “Last year more than 35 students completed more than 40 murals along the river walk and we are hoping to expand that number this year to complete even more murals.”
Members of the Firebird Concert Chorus performed nearly a dozen songs, much to the pleasure of the audience full of proud family members and friends. In addition to the concert chorus, the chamber singers also belted out seven songs ranging from “Take Me to the Water” to “Kiss Me Softy.”
