Sandra Scott Travels: Saddle Up For The ‘Run for the Roses’

The most exciting Kentucky Derby for those of us who live in Upstate New York was in 2003 when Funny Cide from Sackets Harbor “Ran for the Roses.” He was the first New York bred horse to win the Derby. After Funny Cide won the Kentucky Derby the excitement continued when he went on to win the Preakness Stakes. Excitement reached a fever pitch when Funny Cide ran in the Belmont Stakes. A win at Belmont would mean Funny Cide would earn the coveted Triple Crown.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office investigated a logging accident that occurred today (April 29) off Prine Road in the town of Lysander that claimed the life of a 55-year-old man. At approximately 3:10 p.m., sheriff’s deputies along with emergency medical personnel responded to 9171 Prine Road for a reported logging accident.

Ritchie Calls On State To Pick Up Tab For DA Raises

Senator Patty Ritchie announced she is cosponsoring legislation that would stop Albany from passing the buck to counties by making the state cover the full cost of mandated salary raises for district attorneys. “Requiring counties to cover the cost of state-mandated raises for DAs is just another example of Albany forcing our counties and local taxpayers to foot the bill for unfunded mandates imposed by the state,” she said.
