“With Passion & Purpose: The Campaign for SUNY Oswego” has achieved a historic milestone in its five-year journey by surpassing the $40 million announced goal. This is the largest announced campaign among all SUNY comprehensive colleges — Oswego’s peer schools — and nearly double the college’s last campaign goal of $23 million.
The event began with a lion (Preston Lacey), zebra (Myla Wojtaszek) and tiger (Brayden Jessie) peering into the audience as the second grade classmen sang “It’s a Jungle Out There” dressed as cheetahs, monkeys, hyenas and elephants.
Memorial graveside services for Mary L. Etzel Smith, 90, who passed away, January 16, 2016, at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego, will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, June 16, at Mount Adnah Cemetery, Fulton.
As part of a Family and Consumer Science sewing unit, Alexis Centrone (Oswego City School District), Kaylee Lewis and Shaun Huggins (both from Mexico Academy & Central School District) recently completed a project-based learning activity where they sewed bags and stuffed them full of goodies for children battling health issues.
Fairley Elementary School first graders recently used music and art to help showcase what they have learned throughout the 2015-2016 school year. During the recent family night in the school’s gymnasium, students waved American flags as they sang their favorite patriotic song, “Oh, I Love America.”
The recognition came during a recent Morning Express program in the school gymnasium where library media specialist Barb Senecal commended all seven honorees for doubling the first grade AR goal of 10 points.
Students in both Ellen Himes’ and Julie Bennett’s classrooms collected donated materials and purchased additional items for the school’s new 28×14 foot L-shaped raised garden, adjacent to the back playground.
Students walked from MAM to the canal system in downtown Phoenix and then huddled alongside the Oswego River where they learned about life skills, recreation and craftsmanship in the 1800s and early 1900s from historians that were in period costumes.
Participation in the volunteer fire department’s Restricted Access Member (RAM) Program has afforded Phoenix Central School District students the opportunity to expand their education, leadership abilities and sense of community.
