A fast-paced month of July will come to a close at Oswego Speedway this Saturday, July 23, with the historic 30th running of the $10,000 to win Mr. Novelis Supermodified and 25th running of the $1,500 to win Mr. Pathfinder Bank SBS. The second richest paying race of the season at Oswego is a fan favorite, and always provides memorable moments and battles.
Sunny skies and warm weather made for a perfect day for the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s Annual Golf Tournament. The AaPEX / EIF Construction team carded a 59 to capture first place in the morning. The afternoon tournament produced a similar result as the Domino’s Pizza team shot a 59 to finish first.
Rochester Institute of Technology celebrated its 131st Academic Convocation in May. Diplomas were distributed to graduates following the event at separate ceremonies held by each of RIT’s nine colleges and two academic centers.
A 5K Fun Run, Walk and Roll will be held next moth to benefit ARC and Oswego Industries. The event will be held on August 13 at 9:30 a.m. at the SUNY Oswego Campus Center.
At this time I wish to thank Chairman Kevin Gardner and Majority Leader Shane Broadwell for the extraordinary acts of bi-partisanship at the last two meetings of the Oswego County Legislature. As I said during the recent meeting, there are issues that go beyond politics, and the FitzPatrick jobs are one of them.
The Oswego City School District’s Education Center could be sold in nine to 12 months; or, maybe even sooner. Or it could take quite a bit longer to find a buyer for the 120 E. First St. property. At Tuesday night’s board of education meeting, the district approved Pyramid Brokerage Company as the authorized broker for the sale of the Education Center.
Jeremiah F. Donahue, 84, of Granby, passed away on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Syracuse VA Hospital.
Madalyn (Sponable) Morgan, 80, of Phoenix, passed away on Monday July 18, 2016, after a brief illness, at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, NY.
