Gathering around the campfire circle and watching the sun set over Lake Ontario is one of campers' favorite memories at Camp Hollis, the children's summer camp operated by the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau. The youth bureau is accepting applications for overnight and day camp sessions for the summer of 2017. Children ages 8 to 14 are eligible to attend the overnight camping sessions.

Youth Bureau Offers One-Night, Day-Camp, Weekly Camp Sessions

Swimming, nature hikes, games, campfires, arts and crafts and many more activities are offered for all age groups. Camp Hollis offers week-long summer residential camp experiences for 9- to 14-year-olds, an overnight experience for 8-year-olds, and a day camp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, for campers ages 6 to 12.

Salvation Army to Hold Second Annual Red Kettle Golf Classic

The Corps is holding its second annual Red Kettle Classic Golf Tournament on August 12 at Battle Island State Park Golf Course, 2150 State Route 48, Fulton. Golfers from throughout Oswego County and beyond are invited to register teams for a day of fun and fellowship that will help neighbors in need. The tournament is scheduled for a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

Fulton Family Hosts Community Egg Hunt for Second Year

For the second year, a Fulton family has taken the initiative to host an Easter egg hunt for children in the Fulton community. Last year, Robert Zentner, 26, and Char Zentner, 20, noticed that there was not anything for the kids to do in the Fulton community to celebrate Easter. Together, they decided to change that. The day before Easter, (April 15) the Zentners hosted their second Easter egg hunt event at Van Buren Park for all kids in the community.

Committee Gives Bemelmans Festival Favorable Recommendation

Plans to stage the Bemelmans Festival next month (May 12-20) at the Fort Ontario Complex received a favorable recommendation at Monday night Physical Services Committee. The festival is to celebrate the 100th anniversary of World War I and 1917 deployment of Ludwig Bemelmans, author of Madeline Books, as a Private at Fort Ontario. The full council will consider the request next week.
