In commemoration of D-Day, the World War II battle that took place along the shores of Normandy, France, the H. Lee White Maritime Museum at Oswego will be offering special guided tours of the National Historic Landmark WWII Tug, LT-5 on June 10 from 1 – 4:30 p.m. LT-5 is a D-Day veteran, and provided logistical support for ground troops as part of Operation Mulberry.
Just ahead of the Memorial Day Weekend, State Senator Patty Ritchie announced the Senate today (May 24) approved several bills she cosponsors that honor America and those who have served their country. “It is so critically important to honor the memory of our fallen heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice while defending our nation,” said Senator Ritchie.
Oswego Health is among the sponsors of the upcoming free community breastfeeding shower to be June 16 in Health Services Center. Women who are breastfeeding for the first time or those who plan to breast feed are encouraged to attend this event coordinated by the Oswego County Breastfeeding Coalition.
The Fulton City School District finished the Unified Basketball season with nothing but smiles. Specifically for Fulton City School District, a unified basketball team paired 12 special education students referred to as “athletes” with five general education students referred to as “partners.” The team was part of a league of six teams from school districts throughout the section including East Syracuse Minoa, Baldwinsville, Fayetteville-Manlius, Liverpool and West Genesee.
Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today (May 24) the protection of 3,236 acres of working forestland in the towns of Redfield and Orwell. This conservation effort will help to secure the working landscape of the Tug Hill region that provides vital economic support to local communities.
Governor Andrew Cuomo today (May 24) announced the state has acquired more than 6,000 acres of protected lands in Oswego County, the largest additions to state lands in Central New York in 45 years. These areas include approximately 2,825 acres of lands along the Salmon River, an internationally acclaimed fishing destination, and 3,236 acres of working forestland in the nearby towns of Redfield and Orwell.
Oswego County STOP-DWI Coordinator Robert Lighthall announced that Oswego County police agencies will participate in a special enforcement effort to crackdown on impaired driving. The statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown efforts start on May 26 and will end on May 30. Memorial Day week is historically a deadly period for impaired driving. Memorial Day weekend is the traditional beginning of summer.
Artist and storyteller Christopher Agostino met with sixth and eighth graders to infuse arts in education with his “StoryFaces” show. Agostino told a variety of stories while simultaneously transforming the faces of student volunteers into the characters.
One student from each classroom was selected by their teacher for the honor, which offered praise and gratitude for the children that never gave up and pushed themselves toward achieving academic or behavioral goals.
This week marks the official start of the Greater Oswego – Fulton Chamber of Commerce Farmers’ Markets in Oswego and Fulton. The markets are presented by Oswego Health and will run 20 weeks through mid-October.
