On May 7, 29 seventh graders from Oswego Middle School were inducted into the Eagle’s Nest Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. Members were selected based on the five pillars of NJHS, which include: scholarship, leadership, service, character and citizenship.
The Oswego Sunrise Rotary Club recently welcomed Richard Sivers, president of the Oswego Players, to discuss his adaptation of “My War With the United States,” a memoir by Ludwig Bemelmans, into a comedic play. Bemelmans, the author of the “Madeline” series of children’s books, was stationed at Fort Ontario in 1917 during World War I.

The Spring Fling Polka Dance at the Fulton Polish Home on May 20 will feature Jasiu Klocek and the Salt City Brass from 3 to 7 p.m. Jasiu Klocek and the Salt City Brass define Polish Music for many Central New Yorkers.
The H. Lee White Maritime Museum at Oswego kicks off its 2017 History Lecture Series on June 3, at 1:30 p.m. Captain Ronald Marquisee, producer/director of the PBS series Cruising America’s Waterways will be screening an episode of that series that follows the Oswego River/Canal from Three Rivers to Oswego. Included is a visit to the museum’s National Historic Landmark World War II Tug, LT-5 and an interview with H. Lee White Maritime Museum founder, Mrs. Rosemary Nesbitt.
New York State is a leader in the arts but one of the things that our region has traditionally struggled with is obtaining funding to help support the arts. Since New York City is so big and provides much by way of culture and entertainment, much of the state funding for the arts has been driven downstate. However, in recent years there has been a shift in how funding has been made available.
The Pulaski Community Cupboard will hold a Bingo Marathon and bake sale on June 4. The doors will open at 11 a.m. and the sale of bingo cards will start at noon. There will be two bingo sessions, the first will start at 1 p.m. and the second will begin at about 5:30 p.m.
Lauren Cutler of North Canton, Ohio, has been selected to receive the 2017 Outstanding Senior Award by the Oswego Alumni Association. She was recognized during the Commencement Eve Dinner on May 12 in SUNY Oswego’s Marano Campus Center convocation hall and arena.
Oswego Health’s annual Fulton Multi-Organ Blood Analysis to be held June 3 in the cafeteria of G. Ray Bodley High School. Oswego Health and the Fulton Kiwanis Club are teaming up once again to offer the community this important screening. This full battery of tests can help prevent potential health problems.
