Zane Alexzander Bresett was born in Oswego Hospital on August 11, 2017, at 4:45 p.m.
Pumpkin gives new meaning to the word, Perky. He is a great cat – about one year old, friendly, sweet, with a beautiful soft coat and gorgeous golden eyes! He is used to poking and prodding grandchildren and a husky dog. He is interested in the other cats in his foster home but has not been formally introduced yet. But he is not aggressive at all so we expect that he would be OK with other cats with proper introductions.
Autumn at SUNY Oswego’s Rice Creek Field Station will bring nature education programming in the form of Rice Creek Rambles, Story Hours for children and plenty of opportunities to tour the updated headquarters. Family-friendly, naturalist-led walks — for decades known as Rice Creek Rambles — are scheduled at 11 a.m. on numerous Saturdays this fall: Sept. 16, 23 and 30; Oct. 14, 21 and 28; Nov. 11, 18 and 25; and Dec. 9.
At a recent Fulton Sunrise Rotary meeting, our guest, Vanessa Langdon, told us about her recent experience with AmeriCorps. Langdon spent 10 months in the Southwest region and some of the projects included cleaning up after the flooding in Louisiana, preparing income taxes in Missouri and traveling throughout Arkansas working at human development centers.
Individuals with disabilities and their family members now have a new way to save and plan for future expenses. New Yorkers can now open a tax-deferred 529 Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) account. The accounts are a savings option for families and money earned through the fund is tax exempt if it is spent on qualified expenses. Similar to the 529 College Savings accounts, contributions to the account may be made by anyone.
The Oswego County Legislature’s Public Safety Committee presented Jennifer Miller with a certificate of appreciation for her 25 years of service to the county. Miller is a telecommunicator in the Oswego County E-911 Department.
Jessica Lawler of Mexico was recognized with the Outstanding Achievement in Biology Award during American International College’s Academic Awards ceremony this spring. The Outstanding Achievement in Biology is presented to the student in each class year who has demonstrated excellence in the subject area.
Local students who are enrolled in a satellite paramedic program through Mohawk Valley Health Systems will be able to attend some of their classes at the Oswego County Branch Office Building in Fulton, according to Oswego County Emergency Medical Services Coordinator Renee Fox.
Ride Oswego County (ROC), a community cycling group that organizes group rides across Oswego County’s rural roads, will host three events that showcase the area’s scenic terrain over the next several weeks.
