Software engineering major Joshua Karns of Rochester and computer science major Wyatt Matt of Parish — both in only their second year at SUNY Oswego, though with junior-level course credits — will spend May 16 to Aug. 24 advancing the graphical user interface for the HITRAN spectroscopic database, developed at the Atomic and Molecular Physics Division of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, under the direction of Dr. Iouli E. Gordon.

SUNY Oswego To Host Notary Training Workshop

On March 23, SUNY Oswego’s Division of Extended Learning will offer a half-day workshop on preparing for the New York state notary exam. The seminar will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the college’s Office of Business and Community Relations, 121 E. First St. in downtown Oswego.

Laker Basketball Advances, Schupp Notches Milestone

The Oswego State men’s basketball team defeated Geneseo, 95-84, on Tuesday night to advance to the SUNYAC Semifinal. Ian Schupp notched his 1,000th career point in the postseason victory. The senior reached the milestone on a 3-pointer from the corner to give the Lakers a 78-63 advantage in the second half.

Bodley Announces VIPs For Second Marking Period

For their efforts, the qualifying 78 freshmen, 55 sophomores, 46 juniors and 54 seniors were treated to a free lunch of walking tacos on Feb. 16.

Healthy Family Night Set March 22 In Hannibal

Preparations are under way in the Hannibal Central School District for an annual tradition promoting healthy habits and positive choices. The fifth annual Healthy Family Night will be held from 5-7 p.m. March 22 at Fairley Elementary School and will feature a variety of activities for community members.

Sandy Creek Elementary, to encourage their students to read books at home, challenged their classes to keep track of how many books they read at home and the grade with the most books read would receive a special snow-inspired reward.

Fulton Youth Basketball Winter Clinic Packs the Gym

The Fulton Youth Basketball shooting and offensive skills clinic yielded roughly 75 participants from pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. The turnout was an increase from the number of participants that attended last year; a statistic that keeps growing annually, just as the participation numbers for the Fulton Youth Basketball league, according to program director Sean Broderick. Held at the city-owned Fulton War Memorial, kids flooded the gym Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 19 and 20) to learn skills centered on the fundamentals of shooting, dribbling, and passing. Even more so, Broderick said, the kids had plenty of fun.

MACS Hall Of Fame Nominations Sought

The Mexico Academy and Central School Alumni Association is seeking nominations for new members to be inducted into the MACS Hall of Fame. The MACS Alumni Association Hall of Fame was created to honor people who have had a profound effect on the children of the Mexico Academy and Central School District.
