Priority for 2018 Budget Should be Simple: Cut Property Taxes

Our property taxes are among the highest in the nation. New York needs to make structural changes if there is any hope for reducing tax bills for property owners. Legislation has been introduced that would help alleviate some of this burden for Upstate residents and stimulate economic growth. For starters, the state needs to take over the full cost of Medicaid. Medicaid is a joint federal and state program largely administered by states and is paid for with federal, state and local funds.

Maya Angelou Documentary To Screen In Advance Of Filmmaker’s Oswego Visit

A free screening of Rita Coburn Whack’s and Bob Hercules’ award-winning feature documentary, “Maya Angelou and Still I Rise,” will take place at 7 p.m. March 27, in SUNY Oswego’s Marano Campus Center auditorium. The screening sets the stage for Coburn Whack’s visit to campus in April for the college’s Voices of Diversity Speaker Series and a special Diversity in the Arts Documentary Project.

Health Department Sponsors Rabies Clinic March 21 in Scriba

The Oswego County Health Department will hold its first rabies clinic of the season March 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the County Highway Garage, 31 Schaad Drive, Scriba. The rabies virus is fatal to mammals and can infect any mammal. Immunizing pets greatly reduces the risk of human exposure to rabies and is the most effective way to protect humans and their pets from the rabies virus.

NY Army National Guard Warrant Officer Robert Taylor Commended By NY National Guard Chief during Ukraine Visit

NY Army National Guard Warrant Officer Robert Taylor , a Volney resident, was one of the soldiers serving at the Yavoriv Combat Training Center who was greeted by Major General Anthony German, the Adjutant General of New York, during a March 9 visit. Taylor who is assigned to Headquarters Troop of the 2nd Squadron 101st Cavalry, based at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, is one of 220 members of the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team who are working with NATO allied units assigned to the Joint Multinational Training Group- Ukraine to train the Ukrainian Army.
