Earth Day and Canal Clean Sweep was a busy weekend around the Minetto area. On Saturday, Minetto had its Canal Clean Sweep. On Sunday, members of Exelon’s North American Young Generation in Nuclear volunteered with several members of Friends of Great Bear to cut and clear brush at the historic Spring House, adjacent to the Oswego River and historic canal tow path. A roadside litter pick up on Route 57 was conducted by Cayuga Community College students Monday.

SUNY Oswego professors Ampalavanar Nanthakumar of the mathematics department and Eric Schmitz of music have earned the 2018 President’s Award for Scholarly and Creative Activity. The award, which recognizes tenured faculty members’ continuous and outstanding contributions to their respective academic fields, will be presented to Nanthakumar and Schmitz during a recognition ceremony held during this fall’s Academic Affairs Retreat.
On April 30, through May 4, the Fulton Police Department, along with law enforcement officers around the state, will participate in the “No Empty Chair” campaign. During the campaign, officers will conduct details focusing on different traffic safety threats each day.
The Oswego Renaissance Association has been awarded a $200,000 grant from the Richard S. Shineman Foundation for its neighborhood revitalization work in 2018. This is the largest single grant ever awarded to the ORA, now entering its fifth year of operations.

Students and faculty from SUNY Oswego’s “Children’s Literature and Film” and “Storytelling” classes will use their respective arts in a free presentation of children’s stories at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Oswego Public Library. This year’s stories, complete with animation, will include Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales, Rudyard Kipling’s “Just So Stories” and Grimms’ fairy tales.
Oswego County Federal Credit Union was recently recognized as one of the 2018 Best Companies to Work for in New York State. The New York State Society for Human Resource Management recognized 70 employers recently in Albany as part of this 11th annual program.
