Hannibal Students Earn Honors In Third Quarter

The winning team will represent Oswego County at the state level competition at Hobart and William Smith College on May 23-24. Teams from APW, Central Square, Fulton, Hannibal, Mexico, Oswego, Phoenix and Pulaski participated in the event.
Bishop’s Commons at St. Luke hosts its next in a series of monthly “Learn and Lunch” events on May 24. Each “Learn and Lunch” features a half hour educational program followed by a free lunch that includes soup, salad and dessert served in the Grand Dining Room. This month, representatives from Kindred at Home will discuss home health care and the many services they offer in our community.
Across our state, there are rural communities that struggle to provide access to quality health care, due to the challenge of not attracting doctors, nurses and others in the medical field. Upon graduation, many medical professionals are reluctant to establish themselves in rural areas for several reasons, including large student loan debts and a lower salary than those in urban and suburban settings. In fact, according to the New York State Department of Health, 46 percent of the state’s health professional shortage areas fall in rural counties.
Firefighter Sean O’Gorman, who was recently cited by New York Senator Patty Ritchie for saving the lives of two distressed teen-age swimmers, received the first “Mayor’s Award” from Mayor Billy Barlow. Also recognized was Nicholas J. Little, a teacher at Fitzhugh Park Elementary School in Oswego for receiving the 2018 Empire State Excellence in Teaching Award from New York State. It was the only award in Oswego County.

Graveside services for Linda L. Coakley, who passed away February 7, 2018, will be 11 a.m., Monday, May 21, at Mount Adnah Cemetery, East Broadway, Fulton.
Pastor Chuck Copps of Lakeside Christian Ministries was ordained by Elim Fellowship at a ceremony on Saturday, April 28. The celebration was held at Believers Chapel of Fulton. Rev. Copps, or Pastor Chuck as he is best known, underwent the evaluation and preparation requirements of Elim Fellowship following completion of his Master of Divinity degree in 2014 from Rockbridge Seminary. He received his License to Minister from Elim in 2015.
WE DID IT, FULTON! Local businesses and individuals have taken the Fulton Block Builders (FBB) over their fundraising goal and allowed it to once again receive a $100,000 award from the Richard S. Shineman Foundation!
