Mayor Barlow Issues Executive Order Prioritizing Housing for Domestic Violence Victims

Mayor Billy Barlow issued an executive order today (June 12) putting victims of domestic violence in the highest priority ranking category for the housing placement system in the city of Oswego HUD Section 8 Rental Assistance Program. The city of Oswego Rental Assistance Office uses a prioritized ranking system to place individuals on HUD, a system Mayor Barlow and the Oswego Common Council overhauled late last year.

While the risk of violence is always present in correctional facilities, it seems that in recent times that violence has escalated. Last year, inside New York State prisons, there were 798 reported assaults on corrections staff and 1,220 assaults on inmates by other inmates statewide. In addition, officials confiscated more than 3,000 weapons and contraband items.
