The Oswego County Historical Society will host its Summer Family Fun Day on Aug. 19. This year commemorates the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I and the stories of the involvement of Oswego residents. This includes the story of Norman and Florence Bates and their strong involvement in the war causes along with their four children. Family Fun Day To Commemorate 100th Anniversary of Children’s Civic Pride Day

Fun games, prizes, ice cream sundaes and a scavenger hunt of the Richardson-Bates House Museum will all take place on Aug. 19 from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Family Fun Day. John Gartner of East Amherst recently donated to SUNY Oswego this oil-on-canvas painting -- name and date unknown -- by Oswego native James Gale Tyler, the late marine artist in whose memory Tyler Hall and the Tyler Art Gallery were named.

College Accepts Gift Of James Gale Tyler Painting, 3rd In Its Collection

An East Amherst man moving to Florida full time has donated to SUNY Oswego the college’s third painting by famed marine painter James Gale Tyler, namesake of Tyler Hall and the Tyler Art Gallery on the main campus. The other paintings by Tyler, who was born in Oswego in 1855, came to the college in 1967, thanks to a gift from Delta Kappa Kappa Fraternity, and in 1992 from the estate of Joseph Riley.
