Joseph A. Ponzi

OSWEGO – Joseph A. Ponzi, 73, of Oswego, New York, passed away on September 17, 2025, at Crouse Hospital with his family by his bedside.  He was a loving husband, father, papa, and friend, and will be greatly missed.

Joe was born to Floyd and Jacqueline Ponzi on December 22, 1951.  He married Kathy Reitz on August 8, 1970, and they shared 55 years of marriage.  He was a member of Painters Local 38 and Laborers Local 214.

Joe was an avid sports lover.  He enjoyed playing basketball and baseball in his youth, but his true love was the game of golf.  He was a member of the Oswego Country Club for over 40 years and, in recent years, became a member of Stone Creek Golf Club.  He was also a member of The Oswego Moose and The American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Kathy; daughters Gina Ponzi, Kelly Ponzi, and Maria (Nick) Conaway; grandsons Jacob Vickery, Cody Vickery, Carter Conaway, and Luke Conaway; and his brother Michael Ponzi.  He was predeceased by his father Floyd, mother Jacqueline, and brother Albert (Butch) Ponzi.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Nelson Funeral Home in Oswego from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with remembrance and prayer immediately following. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
