FULTON, NY – At a recent Sunrise Rotary meeting, Rotarian David Nethercott, left, introduced David DeFrancis, the director of Outreach for Aurora of CNY, Inc.
Aurora covers Oswego, Onondaga and Cayuga counties and serves a population who suffers hearing and vision loss.
Many customers suffer from macular degeneration.
It is expected that future generations will suffer more hearing loss from their use of earbuds/headphones.
Anyone can refer to the service.
The typical customer is 55+ with a related issue up to the point of being declared legally blind.
DeFrancis demonstrated many products designed to increase and maintain the independence of his customers.
These included: magnifiers, talking watches, books on tape, large print check registers and emergency contact books, as well as products to help those with hearing loss.
As these items are not covered by Medicaid or Medicare, he showed some low-cost options.
