The society held its last meeting of the year on November 24. A good number attended the fine lunch served by Erma Schroeder. The meeting was conducted by Greg Monette in the absence of President Doyle.
The Starr Clark Tin Shop and Underground Railroad Museum will open its doors to visitors at an open house Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. The tin shop was a key gathering place for abolitionists. Constructed in 1827, it is believed to be the oldest mercantile building in Oswego County.

Ben Turner of Murdock’s Bicycles and Sports in Oswego has collected 6 boxes of food to date. He started collecting food at his store in support of United Way’s Annual Stone Soup luncheon and is continuing to do so until Christmas.
I extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who lent their support to the United Way’s Annual Stone Soup Luncheon. The event was an excellent reflection of the theme of this year’s United Way campaign, “It’s our community and it’s personal.”
Emma Smentaniuk (Jr., Frankfort, Ontario) scored the lone goal for the Oswego State women’s ice hockey team (4-4-1), which lost to non-conference Hamilton (3-1-0), 3-1, on Tuesday night.
While homelessness in Oswego County is not always recognizable, it does exist. A one-day study on January 25 of this year, conducted by the County of Oswego Advocates Challenging Homelessness (COACH), indicates that on any day in Oswego county more than 85 county residents have no place to call home and more than 30 more are on the brink of homelessness.
