Remember the area around the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Facility is off limits to boating. The restricted area stretches 1,000 yards offshore and extends from the Alcan plant to the Sunset Bay area along Lake Ontario, east of the city of Oswego.

With Fort Ontario Closed, Local Officials Will Ask State If Volunteers Can Run The Site

The sign on the gate at Fort Ontario tells the story -- closed for  the season, or, at least until state lawmakers come up with a budget  that funds state parks.Local officials are not willing to let Fort Ontario sit idle for the entire summer.

At a meeting of the county’s Tourism Advisory Council this week, county officials and local tourism business owners decided to ask the state if there’s a way to get the fort open. Fort Ontario is one of 55 state parks, historic sites and golf courses that either closed or were not allowed to open for the summer because state lawmakers have not approved a state budget yet.

Horse Owner Sentenced to Prison in Cruelty Case that Involved Granby Woman

Lucky Val kicks up her heels in this photo from 2009.  Val was one  of the horses rescued by Lisa Leogrande and is shown during recovery at  Leogrande's Triple L Stables in Granby.A case of animal cruelty in Eastern New York is complete, with the sentencing of a prominent horse owner and breeder.  The case began with a Granby woman, who sounded the alarm over the condition of dozens of the owner’s horses, who had been sold to be slaughtered for horsemeat.
