A partnership between Oswego County schools and the American Heart Association is helping promote physical activity and a healthy lifestyle all month long with activities that organizers described as a “Party in P.E.”
The Oswego County Chapter of the New York State School Facilities Association is seeking applicants for its annual scholarship awards. The association will award at least five $500 scholarships in 2018, depending on the number of qualified applications received.
The Universal Pre-Kindergarten program in the Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District is still accepting applications for the upcoming 2018-19 school year. At this time we have AM and PM slots available.
The faculty and staff at Charles E. Riley Elementary School, along with Principal Dr. Linda Doty and Superintendent Dr. Dean Goewey, marked the celebration of World Down Syndrome Day today (March 21) with matching T-shirts, mismatched socks and a lot of love and support for families and children with Down syndrome.
G. Ray Bodley High School’s annual Career Day brought several people – and a dog – together to expose the students in grades nine through 12 to pathways toward a future career. While representatives from the fields of law enforcement, hospitality, military, cosmetology, media and athletics, among several others, spoke about their individual journeys, a majority of them had one common theme: consider the best educational courses now.
Similar lessons and attitudes both inside and outside of New Haven Elementary School may provide the students with a more positive outlook on life and themselves.
Students from Granby, Lanigan, Fairgrieve and Volney elementary schools will read “The One and Only Ivan” with a parent or other positive role model, as the district will serve as a conduit for reading at home.
As issues divide, the Mexico Academy and Central School District unites. That message was spread loud and clear during a Unity Assembly at Mexico High School where students and district staff members came together to both honor lives lost and reaffirm their commitment to kindness.
OHS Senior Emily Bradshaw spoke directly to her classmates and asked them to “stand together, not divided.” “We’re asking you to walk up, not walk out,” Bradshaw said. “Walk up to that person who is sitting alone, walk up and compliment someone you don’t know very well, walk up and thank someone who has helped you. The world is scary and filled with a lot of hate so I challenge you to walk up.”
Geri Geitner, FCSD director of Student Support Services, said the district’s goal is to demonstrate that what children do during the school day prepares them for their futures and to underscore the importance of working toward future goals together.
