Hard work, commitment, character and academic success were in focus recently as 140 Oswego County students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society. The honorees, all Career and Technical Education students at CiTi, achieved high marks in the classroom and exhibited tremendous character to meet the eligibility requirements for membership.

Oswego High School junior Jenna Ballard will present a solo piano recital at 2 p.m. on June 7 at the Church of the Resurrection, 120 W. Fifth St. The program is free and open to the public. Those who would like to make a monetary donation to the Oswego County Humane Society may do so in the collection box in the back of the room.

The halls of Fairley Elementary School were transformed into an art gallery recently as student-generated drawings, painting and sculptures were on display. Guests perused the school as they “traveled the world with art.” Each wing of the building had artwork inspired by a different country.

During a recent assembly at Volney Elementary School, students were praised for exemplifying positive behavior traits and serving as role models throughout the month of May. Nearly 50 students from throughout the school were recognized for their positive character.

Emerson J Dillon Middle School welcomed 11 new members into the National Junior Honor Society recently. This year, the EJD NJHS has served its community in a variety of ways, from UNICEF trick or treating to the sending of Christmas cards to Michaud nursing home.

Although Pulaski High School senior Megan Jennings still has final exams to take and academic projects to finish, she is eager for her future at Mansfield University. The multi-sport student-athlete recently signed her letter of intent to attend the Division II college in Pennsylvania, where she will study biology and run cross-country and track.

Through a writing contest at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation, six deaf/hard-of-hearing students recently won vibrating alarm clocks. The students wrote persuasive essays about why they could benefit from a vibrating alarm clock.

Living with the Ever-Changing Eastern Lake Ontario Dunes is the topic for a public information meeting to be held June 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Selkirk Shores State Park, 7101 Route 3, Pulaski.

The auditions are scheduled for June 7 and 8 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the New Haven Congregational Church located on Route 104 East between Oswego and Mexico.
