One local resident met “Santa” three days early for a very special Christmas. Sharon McCoy is the lucky winner of the Diamond Necklace from the Oswego Community Youth Orchestra, donated generously by JP Jewelers.
APW Elementary School recently held a holiday celebration that invited staff and students to wear pajamas, bring in a stuffed animal and read a favorite book. To kick off the celebration, “The Night Before Christmas” was read over the PA system during morning announcements.
Lanigan students danced at the school’s Holiday Sing-a-long. This holiday season, the school raised more than $550 from bottles and cans for the needy.
Eight new audible pedestrian signals have been installed in Fulton to increase pedestrian safety for people with visual impairments. The signals are at the intersection of Route 3/Route 48 and at the corner of Route 481 and Oneida Street. Audible pedestrian signals are specialized crossing devices that provide visual, tactile, and audio cues.
Lura M. Sharp Elementary School’s Dare to Dream Awards were presented in a red carpet ceremony to honor those students who best exemplified the character trait of “Empathy” for the month of December.
Eight John C. Birdlebough High School graduates returned to their alma mater recently to discuss a variety of topics related to higher education. The alums served as panelists during the annual College Day at the school, where juniors and seniors asked for advice on everything from college life to financial aid.
Students and staff at Lura M. Sharp Elementary School recently showcased their holiday spirit by singing songs, watching Christmas movies and dressing the part. On the final day of classes before winter recess, students and staff were encouraged to dress in pajamas and wear festival decorations, such as reindeer hats and elf costumes
It will be a festive evening with the stained glass windows aglow, special holiday music and a Christmas meditation by Pastor Shawn Porter.
An outpouring of donations rolled into Emerson J. Dillon Middle School on Dec. 23 as the Polar Express made its annual stop to make spirits bright. Each year, community members, school district personnel, area businesses and other agencies drop off hundreds of new gifts to the middle school.
In a touching letter to Santa, eight-year-old Jessica Pierce, asked Santa to use his Christmas magic to bring her sister, Baba (Alexandra Dinet) home from the Army for the holidays. Dinet, who is in training in the military, was not originally scheduled to be home, marking the first time in young Jessica’s life when the whole family was not together for Christmas.
