Over the Labor Day weekend, the Oswego City Police Department deployed additional personnel to address quality of life concerns in residential neighborhoods. This detail consisted of marked, unmarked and foot patrols. A total of 33 individuals were arrested as a result of the detail.
The Call-N-Ride Bus gives me independence” was the common message shared with Jill Lyon and Natalyn Giverson, representatives from CENG, at the monthly Oswego County Visually Impaired luncheon held at Springside on August 19. The two representatives of CENG, Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, were invited to the luncheon in appreciation of Call-N-Ride. Call-N-Ride is a low-cost, curb-to-curb bus service that is available in Oswego County for the elderly as well as people with disabilities.
The Friends of Fort Ontario will host an Arts, Crafts, and Kites Festival Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the spacious and historic grounds outside the old fort. Admission to the festival is free while normal admission fees will apply to those who wish to tour the old fort. Kite experts from around the United States and Canada and noted kite historian Thom Shanken will be on hand to assist kite fliers of all ages and abilities.

Jim Myers has announced his candidacy for 4th Ward Councilor in the City of Fulton. Myers had been councilor, or alderman as they were called then, from 1988-1993. He was president of the council from 1992-1993.

A benefit will be held for Helen/Candy Sereno on Sept. 15 at Timber Tavern Route 48 Baldwinsville from 1 to 6 p.m. Helen suffered a massive heart attack on June 16 and has been unable to work and faces mounting medical expenses.
For the second consecutive year, Oswego native Pat Lavery will lead the Budweiser International Classic field to green. Lavery laid down the fastest lap of the 32 drivers to take time on Friday night with a quick circuit of 16.223 seconds at 138.692 mph. The pole position effort is the third of Lavery’s career during Budweiser International Classic Weekend, adding to his runs in 2010 and 2012. The pole position run for Lavery earns him $1,000 from front row sponsor Corr/Pak Merchandising.
With the upcoming Labor Day weekend, Oswego Police will once again have added patrols as part of the “Expanded Quality of Life Initiative.” They will also be out in force as part of the annual nationwide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” crackdown on drunk driving.
