Rotarians “Thank A Service Member”

November 15, 2011 Submitted article

Rotarian Richard Kemmis, left, is thanking Peter Allen, Founder and Executive Director of THANK A SERVICE MEMBER. Thank A Service Member was originally founded in 2006 as a grass roots initiative designed to educate the public and to support and show appreciation to the men and women who have served our country. The response to the campaign was overwhelming and in 2010 Thank A Service Member was incorporated as a not-for-profit. Their mission is to “Honor the Service and Support the Needs” of military men and women who have served our country and their families. They do this in a variety of ways, usually “piggy-backing” on other venues designed to pay tribute to the service men and women. During these tribute events the organization is proud to present them with the Thank A Service Member Coin, designed by Peter Allen, to serve as a source of pride and remembrance. Peter presented coins to Rotarians Donald Ross, Wallace Auser, Merrill Hoffman, Dr. Kenneth Kurtz, Gerald Seguin, Richard Kemmis and William Rasbeck thanking them for their military service.Thank A Service Member was originally founded in 2006 as a grass roots initiative designed to educate the public and to support and show appreciation to the men and women who have served our country.

Rotarians Hear Message of Change in War on Drugs

November 14, 2011 Submitted article

Peter Christ, left, is thanked by Rotarian Steve Osborne at a recent Fulton Rotary Club meeting. Peter is a retired captain (20 years) with the Tonawanda Police Department. He spoke on behalf of the nonprofit educational organization, LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition). LEAP is a 501c3 nonprofit corporation with a membership in excess of 50,000. LEAP was formed in 2002 by Peter and his fellow police officers, judges and citizens. The underlying philosophy of “Prohibition” simply does not work. During Peter’s 20 years as a policeman, he observed and had to deal with many criminal elements as a result of illegal drugs. The war on drugs is costing us $90 billion a year. LEAP feels that if drugs were legal and regulated by the Federal and State Government, it would remove the gangsters and the related violence from our society.
