BOCES Students Study Extreme Weather Events

Weather is all around us and nobody knows this better than the students in Mary Hirsh’s class at Oswego County BOCES. The class just wrapped up a weather unit where they studied different extreme weather events such as tornadoes and hurricanes.

Oswego County BOCES students Anthony Morrison, left, and Tyler Seals with the extreme weather event projects that they created for their classroom. Anthony’s research project was about hurricane while Tyler created a project about tornadoes.

As part of the weather unit, students created research-based presentations about one specific event.

The presentations were created on their own time, at home with a parent or family member and included information and characteristics about their specific weather event as well as essential safety precautions.
A second component of the project required students to give a verbal presentation of their extreme weather event to their class.

Students shared general information, something they found interesting about their weather event and also answered questions from their peers and teachers.
