Longtime SUNY Oswego professional staff members in technology services, alumni relations and financial aid have been recognized by the statewide university system with this year’s SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service.
SUNY Oswego has named several high-performing students from the area to the President’s List for spring 2016 for earning grade point averages of 3.80 and above on the 4.00 scale.
Several area students at SUNY Oswego achieved Deans’ List recognition for earning a grade point average of 3.3 to 3.79 in spring 2016.
Fulton Rotary President Bridgette Seguin welcomed Oswego County Director of Veterans Services Donna Kestner to the noon club. Kestner, recently named Rotarian of the Year for the Sunrise Club, was also honored with the noon Rotarians who served in the US military.
Oswego Health and the Oswego Kiwanis Club will hold their annual multi-organ blood analysis on August 6 at Leighton Elementary School in Oswego. Appointments can be made by calling 341-0018, lines will be open 24-hours a day.
Central Square Redhawks were honored at a Senior Athletic Awards Banquet held at Paul V. Moore High School on June 2. Section III Scholar Athlete Awards were given to Brianna Grimes and Stan Kubis for showing outstanding qualities of scholarship and athletic excellence. Grimes will graduate valedictorian of the class and Kubis will rank fourth.
In December 2000, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 20 as World Refugee Day to honor refugee populations in the world. In observance of World Refugee Day, Friends of Fort Ontario will host a free history walk at Fort Ontario State Historic Site at 7 p.m. June 20.
The 2016 class of Leadership Oswego County recently toured sites to learn more about the local programs, history and nature areas. The group began at the Richardson-Bates House Museum in Oswego where they heard a presentation from Oswego County Historian Justin White. They finished their tour at the Half-Shire Historical Society in Richland.
The Oswego County Fire Coordinator’s Office has announced the summer field day and parade schedule for 2016. Things start off in Mexico: July 14 – 16, parade July 14 at 7 p.m. For more information, call 963-7494.
The CNY Alphorns will be performing at the Mexico Point Park on July 17 at 6:15 p.m. Alphorns are the 13-foot-long wooden horns seen frequently in Ricola cough drop commercials. The Alphorn presentation is just one of the great performances that evening.
