Guest bassist Dave Welsch will join Oswego Jazz Project at 3 p.m. Oct. 4, in Sheldon Hall ballroom for the season’s second SUNY Oswego Focus on Faculty concert. Welsch has played with Oswego Jazz Project in the past, as well as with the Ronnie Leigh Quartet, Mario DeSantis, Dave Welsch & Like Minds, and many more.

As the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation ushers in a new school year, the community is invited to share in the excitement and tour the new state-of-the-art facilities during a community open house Sept. 26. The event, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mexico campus (179 County Route 64), will feature food, prizes, student demonstrations and building tours.

The Lioness Club of Central Square Apple Festival is a fun filled weekend for the whole family. Friday night is the opening rides and food event, with no craft booths open at this time.

Business and organizations throughout Oswego County are demonstrating their support for the cause of literacy in Oswego County by helping to sponsor the annual Scrabble Fest. From monetary donations to gift items and door prizes, these caring businesses, organizations and individuals are helping to ensure that Literacy Volunteers’ 2015 Scrabble Fest is better than ever.

The Oswego County Historical Society will host the next lecture of the 2015 season on September 27 at 1:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Don Gillespie will present a PowerPoint presentation entitled “Cloning Neptune: Recreating a Masterpiece of Charles H. Grant.”

Patrick Dewine, executive director of the United Way of Greater Oswego County, has announced that Kalyn Duguay has joined the United Way staff as campaign intern. A senior at SUNY Oswego pursuing a degree in communications with a minor in business, Duguay is excited to be working with the United Way.

On September 20, a freewill pancake breakfast will be held at Lake City Masonic Lodge No. 127 at 127 E. Seneca St., from 8:00 a.m. until noon. The menu includes pancake, french toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries coffee, tea, milk and orange juice.

Tim Fennell, managing partner at the local firm of Amdursky, Pelky, Fennell and Wallen, was a recent guest at Oswego Rotary where he presented a program on Power of Attorney, the different types of Power of Attorney and the answers to why you should have a Power of Attorney.

The Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District welcomes Brian Kovalchik as an administrative intern. He started working for the APW Central School District in 1997 teaching ninth grade global studies.
