Volunteers are invited to help pull invasive water chestnuts on the Oswego River near Battle Island. This event will be held August 1. Kayaks and canoes will launch from 16 Hickory Grove Spur, Fulton, at 10 a.m.

From the Novelis-Oswego County Federal Credit Union-Oswego Health-Palladium Times Children’s Parade is the highlight of the first full day of the 28th edition of Oswego Harborfest.

There will be a pancake breakfast August 9 at the VFW #5885 at 14 Bronson St. The VFW will be sponsoring the breakfast on August 9 as a benefit for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Want to learn more about how important trees are? A workshop will be held that will take a look at part of the local urban forest and how participants can help the trees (and all of us!) thrive. There will be instruction in identifying several tree growth problems, pruning, mulching, watering as well as other tree related issues.
Magic in Minetto, in conjunction with Canal Splash, will be held on August 8 from 11a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mnettto River View Park, County Route 48. Magic is a fun, family event which features music, food, kids’ crafts, face painting and ice cream as well as a bouncy hut. The Children’s Museum of Oswego will provide activities.
Area students taking part in Oswego Health’s upcoming MASH Camp will learn CPR using kits donated by Emergency Consultants, Inc. During the two-day camp to be held July 29 and 30 at Oswego Hospital, the students will be taught how to perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation.
Oswego County GENIUS Olympiad, a SUNY Oswego-sponsored science competition that encourages area high school students to focus on all aspects of global environment issues, awarded its top prize to a team of two students from Central Square’s Paul V. Moore High School.
In an effort to keep the community safe, the Oswego Fire Department works closely with the lifeguard staff at the public pool located at Fort Ontario. Every year, each shift from the fire department tours the facility, interacts with the lifeguards, and gets acclimated to the surroundings should they need to respond to an emergency there. The Oswego Fire Department coordinated a drill last week at the pool that simulated a child injured from diving in shallow water.
New York State law requires that all cats, dogs, and pet ferrets be vaccinated against rabies. The first rabies vaccine should be given at three months of age.
