Oswego Health will host a career fair for registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and certified nurse aides from 4:30 until 7 p.m. on May 20 at Ruby Tuesday’s restaurant on Route 104 east. Candidates will have the opportunity to learn about the specific duties required for the open positions, which are at Oswego Hospital and The Manor at Seneca Hill.
The annual ARISE and Ride for Ramps event will take place on May 30 at Lighthouse Lanes. The event offers something for the whole family: walk/run, motorcycle ride, bicycle ride, and great food. The day will start at 10 a.m.with an exciting 5k run/walk that begins with a lap around the famous Oswego Speedway. Then the runners/walkers will be off to complete the 5k.
Oswego State Downtown will display the prints of 12 Oswego High School students in a free public exhibition titled “Printmaking Unraveled” from May 29 to June 27. The opening reception for the artists in instructor Billie Jo Peterson’s printmaking class will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. May 29, at the branch of Tyler Art Gallery and the College Store, at the corner of West First and Bridge streets in Oswego. The exhibition runs through June 27.
Members of the Child Advocacy Center’s Multi-Disciplinary Team were recently recognized at the agency’s Annual Meeting for their extraordinary investigative efforts. Over the past year, the CAC served 475 children, provided 3,375 therapy sessions, and forensically investigated more than 140 cases.
SUNY Oswego’s Penfield Library will hold a public sale of books and other library materials from 1 to 4 p.m. June 5 and 9 to 11 a.m. on June 6 in conjunction with the college’s Reunion 2015 weekend.
On May 17, a pancake breakfast will be held at Lake City Lodge 127 from 8 a.m. until noon. The menu includes pancake, French toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries coffee, tea, milk and orange juice.
Oswego County Opportunities Executive Director Diane Cooper-Currier has announced that Kristin LaBarge was recently honored with the agency’s prestigious Amelia Whelahan Leadership Award during OCO’s annual meeting held April 22 at Springside at Seneca Hill.
Construction Technology students from the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation recently spent some time helping to rebuild some of the fencing at Fort Ontario in Oswego. The fence needed to be constructed from materials that were available in the 1800s thus providing a distinctive learning experience for the students.
In addition to two half-day UPK sections, a full-day Pre-K program will be added for those students who do not necessarily fall into the guidelines for the UPK program, but who are not quite ready for kindergarten.
Dr. Fehmi Damkaci, a SUNY Oswego chemistry faculty member long active with his students in lab research, journal publications, conference presentations and career guidance, will receive the 2015 Provost’s Award for Mentoring in Scholarly and Creative Activity.
