Students, faculty and staff at Fairley Elementary School showed their appreciation for armed servicemen and women during a recent assembly. The patriotic event included a color guard, several local veterans (who were listed and recognized), a tribute to a former teacher and a song performed by the students.
Members of Peaceful Schools, a Syracuse-based organization specializing in social-emotional education and conflict resolutions, paid a visit to the school and performed the play “Have You Filled Your Bucket Today.”
North Volney Methodist Church is sponsoring a Lights of Christmas tree on the church grounds for the holiday season. Lights will be sold for $5 each and can be dedicated to a loved one, a member of the services or that special friend.
Father Moritz Fuchs, retired Catholic priest and native of Fulton, was interviewed on WSYR Channel 9’s “Bridge Street” show on Veterans’ Day to share his experiences as a Army veteran of World War II and his role as the sole bodyguard for Robert H. Jackson, chief prosecutor at the Nuremberg trials and U.S. Associate Supreme Court Justice.
The meeting will start at 5 p.m. with executive session then reconvene with the public session at approximately 6 p.m.
SUNY Oswego President Deborah F. Stanley has invited the public to enjoy a family outing during Thanksgiving week, Nov. 24 to 30, at Romney Field House’s new track, revitalized Rice Creek Field Station’s trails, the Marano Campus Center ice, the Shineman Center planetarium and more.
The history of the Battle Island and the Oswego Canal will be the topics of the next meeting of the Minetto History Buffs. The meeting is set for 1 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Minetto Town Hall. Dick Drosse will present a program of slides and information on the historical aspects of Battle Island area and of the Oswego River and Canal.
Journey of Faith United Methodist Church will host the fourth annual Community Thanksgiving Fellowship Dinner on Thanksgiving Day from noon until 2 p.m.
State Street United Methodist Church will be having a Christmas bazaar and auction along with a cafe lunch on December 6. The hours will be from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The Oswego County Department of Social Services will host an informational meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 4, at the DSS office, 100 Spring St., Mexico, for people who are interested in becoming foster or adoptive parents.
