Rosemary Nesbitt was all about children. She was a master storyteller, turned classic literature into plays for the stage and enchanted generations. Her legacy lives on in The Great Rope Play about a 12-year-old boy named Jonathan. Taking the lead as Jonathan is a young actor named Griffin Marriner who caps his brief stage experiences with a foray to Shakespeare.
June 30, marked the beginning of Fresh Air summer experiences for thousands of inner-city children and their volunteer host families as The Fresh Air Fund kicked off its 138th summer of serving New York City children. By volunteering as a host family in the Oswego area you can share the pure joys of summer with a Fresh Air child in your own backyard!
Lori Greeney received the presidential gavel from Jerry Seguin at a recent Fulton Noon Rotary Club meeting. The Rotary year starts July 1 and closes on June 30 each year.
On July 20, the Oswego County Humane Society will celebrate its fifteenth anniversary at a clambake and birthday bash at Bayshore Grove, Bayshore Road, Oswego. The event will run from 1 to 5 pm and will feature all the clams you can eat, grilled foods, a buffet with vegetarian selections, free draft beer, cash bar, games, a $5,000 hole in one contest, a $500 lottery scratch-off board raffle, a silent auction and live entertainment.
The Oswego County Department of Social Services will host an informational meeting from 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 2, at the DSS office, 100 Spring St., Mexico, for people who are interested in becoming foster or adoptive parents. Oswego County also needs Hispanic foster parents.
Residents at Bishop’s Commons in Oswego have “adopted” standing planters that can be found near the walkways surrounding the residence and have set about personalizing them to reflect each individual’s unique taste and preferences.
The sixth graders of the Fitzhugh Park Elementary School celebrated their final days at the east side school with the annual recognition ceremony. The highlight of the afternoon came as each student received their certificate in recognition of their accomplishments.
New York State is offering two-hour training sessions for residents to have the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster, respond accordingly and recover as quickly as possible. In Oswego, a session will be held at 6 p.m. July 30, in SUNY Oswego’s Sheldon Hall ballroom.

The Oswego County Real Property Tax Service will sell up to 120 parcels of tax delinquent properties at the annual tax property auction Aug. 2, at Oswego High School, Buccaneer Boulevard. Bidder registration begins at 8 a.m. and the auction will start at 10:30 a.m.
