Students who read at least 15 minutes per day for 40 days this summer will receive a certificate from Barclay’s office and be invited to a Summer Reading Challenge party. Kids can track their progress on an official registration calendar provided on the reading challenge form.

Invasive species affect all New Yorkers – from hikers to highway personnel, from gardeners and birders to boaters, and from farmers to foresters. Invasive species are harmful because they reproduce quickly, out-compete native species, and adapt to new environments. Economists estimate that invasive species cost the United States more than $120 billion in damages every year.

Continental Arms Collectors Association’s Revolutionary War Unit celebrated America’s freedom at Fair Haven’s Independence Parade on July 3. The crowd reveled in the repeated sounds of musket firings.

Exelon Generation’s Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station will host an open house on July 29 from 4-7 p.m. in the Nuclear Learning Center. This fun and educational event, known as Community Information Night, is open to all members of the community.

Along with the presentation of certificates were several individual awards including the “Principal’s American Citizenship Award” presented by CER Principal Dr. Linda Doty to Owen Warner. Dr. Doty also presented this year’s Triple “C” Award from the state attorney general for “character, courage and commitment” to Matthew Oldenburg.
