Two of six large sculptures to grace a maple-shaded triangle of land near the Marano Center at SUNY Oswego rose recently for a two-year run that art faculty member Benjamin Entner hopes will mark the beginning in a drive for more public art on campus. Artists Coral Lambert of SUNY Alfred and Eric Stein of Huguenot recently installed “Shape Shifters” and “Cutter,” respectively. The rest of the sculpture garden will take root by early fall, flanking a grove of 10 maple trees along several of the most heavily used walkways on campus.

Boyce Memorial Charity Tournament Golfers Will Take Aim At $20K Hole-In-One

Golfers participating in the 17th Annual St. Luke-Francis Boyce Memorial Charity Tournament could be “one swing away from 20K,” thanks to The House Works in Fulton, sponsor of a $20,000 hole-in-one contest. Golfers will tee off with an 8 a.m. “shotgun” start on August 9 at Battle Island State Park.

Local Quilters Donate Quilts to Veterans

Assemblyman Will Barclay recently honored local quilters who donated handmade quilts to the Quilts of Valor Foundation. Quilts of Valor was founded in 2004. Its mission is to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing quilts. Since the organization was founded, more than 101,000 quilts have been stitched for and given to combat and wartime veterans.

Lucas Graduates Basic Training

Air Force Airman 1st Class Joshua Lucas graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. He is a 2009 graduate of Mexico High School.

11-Week Training Classes for Future Foster and Adoptive Parents Begins Sept. 11

The Oswego County Department of Social Services hosts a training class for prospective foster and adoptive parents Thursday evenings, Sept. 11 through Nov. 20, from 6 to 9 p.m.

United Way Golf Tournament a Success

A field of 46 teams took to the links for a day of golf and fun in the 19th Annual United Way Golf Tournament, held recently at the Oswego Country Club. This year’s event featured two compete tournaments: a morning flight and an afternoon flight.

Fulton Idol Is On For Second Year

Fulton Idol, a voice workshop and contest for youth ages 10 through 15, will take place August 4 through 8, 6 to 8:30 p.m. at First United Church of Fulton, 33 S. Third St. All youth within this age range are welcome to participate. There is no cost to participants.

Fulton Rotarians Help Out Salvation Army

The Fulton Noon Rotarians were made aware in late winter that the two community food pantries, one at the Salvation Army and one at Catholic Charities, were in need of more food supplies than were being donated. The Rotarians took action and each Rotarian donated funds each week to the two organizations to help them buy food.
