The following events and activities are coming up next month at SUNY Oswego.
Oswego County Federal Credit Union has presented a check for $1,000 to Oswego County Opportunities in support of the agency’s annual bowling tournament fundraiser. The credit union is a “Building Dreams” sponsor of this year’s OCO “Retro Bowl.”
Oswego County Legislature Chairman Kevin Gardner recently presented a proclamation designating March as American Red Cross Month to Danielle Hayden, branch director of the Onondaga-Oswego Chapter of the American Red Cross. The Red Cross spreads humanitarian aid and goodwill to people around the world.
Oswego County Clerk Michael C. Backus of Mexico was re-appointed co-chair of the New York State Association of County Clerks Legislative Committee, and was appointed to the newly formed SAFE-Act Committee, by Association President Cheryl Dinolfo.
As the March 12 weather forecast progressed from a winter storm to a blizzard warning, Oswego County government employees and community volunteers unloaded a tractor trailer load of Girl Scout cookies and sorted and delivered them to about 25 scout troops in the Oswego, New Haven, Mexico and Parish areas. When all was said and done, a total of 28,980 boxes of cookies had been accounted for and delivered.
Through the grant, which was awarded by the State Education Department, Hannibal will receive $200,000. Other districts also slated to receive funding include Oswego and Phoenix, which helped write the grant as well. School officials in Hannibal are allocating the funds to create district-wide career ladders for teachers and principals.
The Phoenix Central School District Transportation Department will be joining the 10th Annual Regional Awareness Program for Young Drivers event on March 26 at SUNY Oswego. This year’s program is centered on distracted driving and is being held in conjunction with the New York State University Police at Oswego, the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and Oswego County BOCES.
The Hannibal Central School District has hired a School Security Aide. Ed Brisson is a retired Onondaga County police officer with 23 years of experience. His position is being paid for through a Title VI grant, a non-competitive grant that is part of the Title I consolidated application.
State Senator Patty Ritchie met recently with Assemblyman Will Barclay and Assemblyman Bob Oaks at the Capitol. The three work closely on issues impacting Oswego County. At the meeting, discussed topics such as job creation, cutting taxes and creating new opportunities in the region.
